Kickstart – South Sudan Emerging

Jon in Africa (sorry I stole this off your blog Jon)

This is my friend Jonathan Shuler. He’s a free lance multi-media journalist. Have you ever encountered a person that so obviously has a calling in their life? I know a lot of people who have passion, people who have talent, people who are determined but there is this other quality that I don’t often see, it’s this flow this state that is otherworldly in how natural it is, it’s a person doing what they were made to do. Jon’s calling is to be a journalist, specifically to uncover and share stories that aren’t getting coverage to give them the time and attention that are needed to do them justice.

Jon’s trying to get a project off the ground tentatively titled “South Sudan Emerging”. He’s trying to get funding through Kickstarter. If you’re not familiar Kickstarter is a website that allows people to post their projects and give others the opportunity to invest in their project. You can pitch in $5 to $5,000 each project has different contributor levels. Jon is trying to raise $17,000 in a month. It’s an all or nothing deal with Kickstarter so if he doesn’t get fully funded by May it’s back to the drawing board. So I’m sharing because I believe in this, not just because Jon is my friend and I believe in him but because I think this story really needs a platform to be told.

I think Jon does a much better job of explaining what his project is about so will you do me a favor and just watch the video below? If you think it’s something you can get behind, will you consider pitching in? Even if you can’t pitch in money would you consider posting the link to the Kickstarter project on your Facebook wall and/or Twitter accounts? Help be a part of giving a voice to a voiceless story. Thanks.
